Wardle Trust: Providing more effective governance

Effective governance is a shared responsibility according to Wardle Trust (an established MAT).

But how does joining a MAT lead to more effective governance? Is it just a matter of deciding who does what and leaving them to it?

A key reason why many convertor academies choose MAT membership

Strong governance within a multi-academy trust (MAT) is one of the key drivers for effective accountability and ongoing school improvement.  Consistency of reporting, school centred agendas focussed upon standards give our governors the edge.

Clear links and effective communication are key between those responsible and those implementing policies and procedures

Effective governance covers a wide range of expertise of course.

Let’s take an example.  A MAT will have a clear HR policy for its member schools and be responsible for updating, circulating and publishing its requirements.

Having a centralised HR policy ensures that member academies handle employment issues in a consistent, transparent and reliable manner.

A MAT would be held to account if an academy member failed to comply with the requirements, or was not aware of the policy.  Good communication is, therefore, important when maintaining effective governance.

Collaboration between academy members

With a MAT like Wardle, you have the advantage of being able to bring in governors and expertise from other boards in order to share good practice.  That means schools can learn from each other.

This shared expertise is one of the most powerful tools that a MAT has, and can greatly benefit all member academies.

Better communication, centralised policies and procedures and the collabarative sharing of ideas, expertise and responsibilities, more effective governance is one of the great benefits of joining a progressive multi-academy trust like Wardle.
